Tryout FAQ

While you can register at the tryout location on the day of the tryout, we strongly encourage you to pre-register. Pre-registration allows Rush to know how many evaluators and coaches to have at a tryout. It also allows shorter lines for check in. Online registration is available HERE.

Yes, we think all players should play other sports at a young age. Eventually they may choose one primary sport, but we do not require you to specialize in only soccer.

Yes, players can and do move to different teams throughout the year. We understand that some players might not show well at a tryout or they may excel once they are in our training environment. We will make sure players are playing with the appropriate level.

We ask that every player that is trying out for a Rush Select team be ready to commit to the team upon receiving an offer. This will speed up the process for everyone else in the age group. Decisions must be made within 24 hours as there are players that will be offered a spot should one decline an offer. Acceptance of a roster spot is confirmed ONLY when you register.

All players will be evaluated based on their technical, tactical, and physical abilities. Players who exhibit a strong work ethic and show respect to other players and coaches show well. Players should expect to attend a tryout for 60-90 minutes and will be put into skill-based activities, small-sided games, and full field games for assessment by Rush evaluators.

We will have two tryouts sessions for each age group. Players should attend both sessions. This will give the coaches and evaluators an opportunity to see the player over a longer period of time and make a fair assessment of the player. However, we recognize that there may be circumstances when a player can only make one of the sessions. Please communicate this to the coaches when possible.

Rush players will play their respective age groups in order to comply with the new U.S. Soccer age group birth year standards. If a player feels the best-case scenario for them is to play at an older age group, they need to seek the approval prior to the tryout period from the Rush Select Director Marty Girvan This email address is being protected from spambots.
